Navy Marine Corps PROUD Foundation Celebrates 5 Years of Supporting San Diego Sailors, Marines and their Families

San Diego-based active duty, veterans, retirees, and supporters raises over $50,000 during Golf Fore PROUD to give back to those who protect our country

SAN DIEGO – Oct. 12, 2021 – San Diego County is home to over 100,000 active-duty military members, the largest military presence in the United States.  Including their family members and all the military veterans and retirees in the area, San Diego is home to over 800,000 people who have served or supported someone in uniform.  Adding to this high cost of living and employment issues, many of our active duty and veteran military members are living paycheck to paycheck without a safety net if problems arise.

Well, this is where Navy Marine Corps PROUD Foundation steps in.  Established in 2016 with the motto, “Please Remember Our Unwavering Devotion,” the PROUD Foundation is a 100% volunteer organization that’s helped over 1,500 Sailors, Marines and their families who are struggling financially.

From grocery and gas gift cards, car repairs, family emergency flights to medical bills, holiday meals and childcare, the PROUD Foundation works quickly to assess and provide financial support so that our military members can focus on our nation’s defense.

Originally created to supplement the great work being done by the San Diego Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society Chapters, the PROUD Foundation is now a key referral option for San Diego NMCRS Chapters when they are unable to support military members and their families who need assistance.

In celebration of the PROUD Foundation’s 5th Anniversary and to raise much needed funds to support more military families in need, Golf Fore PROUD Charity Tournament was held on October 4, 2021, at the Country Club of Rancho Bernardo.  With the help of volunteers, golfers, donors and sponsors, PROUD Foundation raised over $50,000.

“We deeply care for those who protect us because we know serving our country can be challenging,” shared Cathe Robling, Navy Marine Corps PROUD Foundation President. “All of the golfers, sponsors and volunteers that made our Golf Fore PROUD event possible truly understand the importance of providing financial aid to our San Diego military community.  We hope our mission inspires others across San Diego to do the same.”

Sponsors from around the country stepped up to support this fundraiser to include $10,000 Gold Star Sponsors Charles and Mercedes Penner and $5,000 Honor Sponsors Marine Corps Aviation Association and Independent Financial Group, LLC.  (Full list of sponsors can be found on our NMC PROUD Foundation website.)
